SUMMARY:Online Panel: AI Regulation in Practice: Compliance and Governance in the EU and UK
DESCRIPTION:Free\, signup required \nRegistration link: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/technologyinternetpolicygrouptip/1478844 \n  \nThe PSA Specialist Group on Technology\, Internet\, and Politics (PSA TIP) is delighted to invite you to an engaging online panel discussion on “AI Regulation in Practice: Compliance and Governance in the EU and UK.” As the EU and UK continue to shape their regulatory frameworks for artificial intelligence\, understanding how these regulations work in practice is essential for policymakers\, businesses\, and civil society. \nIn this panel\, we will explore the evolving landscape of AI regulation\, focusing specifically on the implementation timeline and compliance requirements of the EU AI Act\, which aims to establish a harmonized framework for the safe and trustworthy use of AI across Europe. We will discuss also the ongoing procedures for setting up the AI Act governance framework (AI Pact\, GPAI Code of Practice\, AI Office\, national authorities). The discussion will also touch on the ongoing debates surrounding the UK’s AI Bill\, which seeks to craft an AI regulatory approach distinct from the EU while balancing innovation and governance. \nThis event will bring together leading experts to explore the challenges and opportunities of implementing AI regulation\, focusing on compliance procedures and effective governance practices across Europe and the UK. Key questions will include: What are the best strategies for ensuring compliance with the EU AI Act? How will the timeline for the Act’s implementation affect businesses across the EU? How are UK stakeholders adapting to the evolving discussions around the UK’s AI Bill? What role do ethics and transparency play in AI governance? \nOur panelists will share their insights into the practical implications of AI governance\, offering perspectives from think tanks\, academia\, and NGOs active in shaping AI policy. Attendees will gain an in-depth understanding of the current regulatory environment and how it impacts the development and deployment of AI technologies in various sectors. \nWhether you are a policymaker\, industry professional\, academic\, or simply interested in the future of AI governance\, this panel will provide valuable insights into how regulations are being shaped and implemented on both sides of the Channel. \nDate: 18 December 2024 \nTime: 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm BST / 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm CET \nOnline: Zoom  (link will be provided upon free registration to the event on Ticket Tailor) \n  \nPanellists: \n\nConnor Dunlop – European Public Policy Lead\, Ada Lovelace Institute (UK)\nTekla Emborg – EU Fellow\, Future of Life Institute\nFrancesca Fanucci – Senior Legal Advisor\, ECNL | European Center for Not-For-Profit Law Stichting (NL)\nInga Ulnicane – Research Fellow\, University of Birmingham\n\nChair and moderator: Giulia Sandri\, Technology\, Internet\, and Politics Group & Research Fellow and Scientific Advisor & Research fellow\, Université libre de Bruxelles\, Belgium

SUMMARY:Call for Papers: Technology\, Internet\, & Policy Panels at the Political Studies Association’s 74th Annual International Conference
DESCRIPTION:  \nCall for Papers: Technology\, Internet\, & Policy Panels at the Political Studies Association’s 74th Annual International Conference \n  \nDate: 25-27 March 2024\nLocation: University of Strathclyde\, Glasgow\, Scotland\nDeadline for abstracts & panel proposals: Monday 4th September 2023 \n  \n*Please note\, unlike prior years\, PSA24 will not have a hybrid element\, and will be in-person only* \n  \nThe Technology\, Internet\, & Policy (TIP) Specialist Group invites you to submit paper abstracts and panel proposals for TIP panels at the Political Studies Association’s 74th Annual International Conference. At the last PSA conference\, TIP hosted a successful range of panels\, and we’re hoping to see you again for this conference too! \nWe’re inviting proposals related to the group’s core area\, including research relating to data\, artificial intelligence\, & social media and the associated relationships with society and policy. As with prior years\, you’re able to submit your proposal via TIP much earlier than direct individual submissions. \n  \n  \nSubmission guidance \nFor papers: Please submit the title of your paper\, author(s)\, institution\, email address\, and abstract of up to 300 words. We will attempt to formulate panels based on topic areas from the selection of accepted papers via this route. Please let us know if you’re either a postgraduate student or within the ECR Network. \nFor panel proposals: Please submit a title for your panel along with the titles for each paper\, with abstracts of up to 300 words. Abstracts should also be accompanied by an email address and affiliation for each author. You may also wish to select a panel chair. Please let us know if any authors are postgraduate students or within the ECR Network. \nPanels should be made up of three to four papers. Please note that TIP takes an inclusive approach to panel formation\, and we heavily avoid any all-male or all-white panels wherever possible. \n  \nPlease send submissions to TIP@psa.ac.uk by Monday 4th September 2023\, with the subject line including PSA24. \n  \nProcess \nSpecialist groups have a limited number of panels\, as such we may not be able to accept all papers. We will let you know if you have been successful by Monday 11th September. This will give you enough time to submit individually to the PSA in their call in November 2023. \nIf you are successful\, we will send details of how to register to the conference shortly after. \n  \nFurther information on the conference theme\, registration fees and conference location will be available here in due course: https://www.psa.ac.uk/events/psa-annual-conference-0 \n  \nPlease feel free to forward this invitation. \n  \n  \n
